Rove’s Twisted Words

Re “Rove Draws a Hard Line Between Conservatives, Liberals Over 9/11,” June 24: No, Karl Rove, we liberals did not want therapy and understanding for the 9/11 terrorists. We joined with conservatives and moderates in unified support for the war in Afghanistan. We set aside partisan rhetoric and rallied behind our president.

Then, suddenly, Osama bin Laden’s name vanished from the president’s lips. It was all about Iraq. It had always been about Iraq. You and this administration falsely claimed ties between Iraq and Al Qaeda.

You trumped up charges of weapons of mass destruction to take us to war. And, in the process, you created more terrorists than had existed previously.

This is the real difference between myself, a liberal, and you: I wanted to fight the terrorists who existed and were responsible for 9/11; you had no compunction about creating more terrorists in pursuit of goals that had nothing to do with 9/11 -- as you have no compunction now about slandering millions of Americans who have an equal stake in a free and safe future.
