Body of Man Who Fell in River in 2003 Is Found

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Fishermen have found the body of the former mayor of Tehama floating in the Sacramento River a few miles downstream from where he was swept away almost two years ago.

Marty Graffell, 74, had been missing since slipping into the river Aug. 1, 2003, while playing in his backyard with his dog. Searchers failed to recover his body.

On Friday, three men fishing near Deer Creek saw the body float by, secured it with a rope and called the Tehama County sheriff on a cellphone.
