A man opened fire inside a Norm’s restaurant early Sunday morning, hitting two employees in the legs before sheriff’s deputies fatally shot him, said Sheriff’s Deputy Josie Woolum.
An “emergency entry team” from the Lakewood sheriff’s station was entering the restaurant in the 17800 block of Lakewood Boulevard when the man, believed to be in his 70s, jumped up from behind the service counter brandishing a gun. Woolum said the deputies fired at the man, and when they approached the counter he pointed the gun at them.
She said the deputies shot the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man’s identity was being withheld pending notification of kin. The two female employees were being treated at local hospitals.
