WMD and the Losses Felt on the Home Front

“It’s Official: My Brother Died in Vain,” Commentary, Jan. 14: Though Dante Zappala’s grief is warranted, his indictment of our leadership isn’t. Our president, former president, Congress and Democratic presidential candidate all supported the invasion of Iraq for a handful of reasons, weapons of mass destruction being only one.
The result? A monstrous dictator is overthrown; a democracy is created; millions of lives have been released from a regime. No, Mr. Zappala, your brother did not die in vain.

To Dante Zappala I would just like to say, for what it’s worth, I did blink when it was announced Wednesday that no weapons of mass destruction existed in Iraq. I thought of all those mothers sitting at the kitchen table crying for their lost sons and daughters. I share your grief. What a waste.
