Re “If the War Were in the U.S. ... ,” Commentary, Sept. 24. Your should’a-could’a-would’a-what-if perspective does provide a thoughtful insight into current events. But it is a typically selective perception and an obvious agenda. For the sake of historical balance, professor Juan Cole, consider this: What if an American president had the nerve, in 1939, to do something about Adolf Hitler?
