Police seized nearly 400 firearms from the home of a Simi Valley man, more than all the guns recovered in Los Angeles last year, city officials said Friday.
Wayne Wright, 56, was arrested after he sold a weapon to an undercover officer in Porter Ranch, police said.
Eleven more guns were found in his vehicle in addition to the 376 rifles, shotguns, handguns and assault weapons that were found in his house, according to authorities.
Officers in the Los Angeles Police Department’s gun unit had been investigating Wright for about two weeks.
“This is the biggest seizure that I’m aware of for one single person,” said Lt. Steve Nielsen, head of the gun unit.
“A lot of those guns we seized would have been used for crime on our streets,” Nielsen said.
Last year, the unit seized 348 firearms. With Thursday’s seizure, the gun unit has recovered about 800 weapons so far this year.
