Democrats Continue a Losing Strategy
Once again Senate Democrats have shot themselves in the foot by choosing as minority leader another senator from a conservative state (Nov. 17). What better way to make their minority status permanent!
Tom Daschle was a terrible champion of progressive causes because he was always looking over his shoulder at how the voters in his predominantly Republican state would view his actions. Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will be doing the same thing.
How many elections do Democrats have to lose to see that their strategy of running away from the impressive record of liberalism is a disaster? And how can they expect to excite the base of middle-class, blue-collar, minority, educated, intellectual, scientifically literate, environmentally concerned, free-thinking, newspaper-reading, politically and ethnically and religiously tolerant voters of this country who are feeling more and more unrepresented and sold out by a Democratic Party that is apparently more interested in proving its moderation than in winning elections and improving the lives of people?
