City Measure to Pay for Police Is Urged

Los Angeles Police Chief William J. Bratton said Thursday that he wanted a ballot measure to go before city voters in March or May to raise $160 million a year for 1,260 new officers.
Bratton said the countywide vote Tuesday on the proposed sales tax to pay for new officers demonstrated “fairly broad-based support in the city.” The measure lost, however.
