‘Survivor’ jackpot and a proposal

“Survivor: All Stars” contestant Amber Brkich picked up $1 million and a marriage proposal Sunday night, while CBS collected another night of outsize ratings.
Brkich, winner of the latest “Survivor” cycle, received a surprise on-air marriage proposal from runner-up “Boston Rob” Mariano during Sunday’s two-hour finale, which was watched by 24.1 million viewers, according to preliminary data from Nielsen Media Research.
That’s not quite as high as numbers for last fall’s “Survivor: Pearl Islands” finale (25.3 million), but it bested the send-off for “Survivor: Amazon” (22.3 million) a year ago. And the all-star “reunion special” at 10 p.m. rounded up 25 million viewers -- the best total for a “Survivor” reunion since spring 2001.
So is CBS done squeezing May sweep ratings from its “reality” hit? Not a chance. Thursday will bring “Survivor: America’s Tribal Council,” a live event in which viewers will vote to award another $1 million to their favorite contestant -- and also crown “the sexiest survivors ever.” Oh, and on Monday, the network formally put out the casting call for the 10th “Survivor” competition, to be broadcast in 2005.
