Italian anti-terrorist police have arrested five suspected members of a militant Islamic group who were believed to be recruiting suicide bombers to strike in Iraq, officials said.
An Algerian imam and four Tunisians were detained in Florence as part of a yearlong investigation there and in the port city of Genoa, said officials working on the probe.
The men are suspected of giving logistical support to Al Qaeda and of belonging to Ansar al Islam, which the U.S. has called an Iraqi terrorist group.
