Chicago’s public art director, who oversaw the wildly popular “Cows on Parade” exhibition five years ago, has been fired. Michael Lash alleged in a discrimination complaint that a diabetes-linked mood swing caused the action that led to his dismissal.
Lash, a 14-year city veteran, oversaw ventures for the Cultural Affairs Department and the acquisition of millions of dollars of art for city buildings.
Lash said he was put on medical leave and entered an anti-violence program after he struck a co-worker’s arm with a cell phone in January. He said he was fired after a doctor cleared him to return to work.
