Alabama Hills’ Wild West country

It’s a place full of visual wonders, yet it still feels empty, Mike Beiriger says of the Alabama Hills in California’s Eastern Sierra. The Echo Park reader took this photo years ago in the area west of Lone Pine, where many classic westerns were filmed. He returns to the region year after year because of “the dynamics of it,” he says. “It’s an unusual place -- and very peaceful.”
