An estate to suit Seabiscuit

The former home of War Emblem, who won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness in 2002, is behind the gates of Bradbury Estates, near the Santa Anita Race Track.

Thoroughbreds Spain and Point Given also lived at this estate of the late Prince Ahmed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia. With War Emblem, Bin Salman became the first Arab to own a Kentucky Derby winner. He described the horse as being his best investment since oil.

It was the prince’s passion to acquire and train young horses at his Bradbury farm, but he died of a heart attack at 43 about a month after War Emblem failed to win the Triple Crown.

The prince’s family is not interested in continuing the business. Many of the prince’s horses have been sold at auctions. Now his equestrian estate is on the market.

About this property: More of a gentleman’s farm than a business enterprise, this 16-acre property has such facilities as a fully groomed quarter-mile track with a starting gate and a viewing stand, plus a palatial home and a 5,800-square-foot guesthouse with its own swimming pool.

Asking price: $14 million

Size: The 9,900-square-foot main house has six bedroom suites. There are two garages and two apartments: a two-bedroom of slightly more than 2,000 square feet and a ranch manager’s apartment of about 800 square feet.

The farm also has an almost 6,000-square-foot barn with offices, a 24-stall training barn of 6,400 square feet, a hay and grain barn, a walking arena and a quarantine barn.

The buildings total more than 35,000 square feet.
