Garfunkel cited with possession

Art Garfunkel, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame singer who once recorded “Leaves That Are Green” with partner Paul Simon, has been charged with possession of same by New York authorities.
Garfunkel was riding alone in a limousine over the weekend in Hurley, N.Y., about 55 miles south of Albany, when a state trooper pulled the vehicle over for speeding. The officer reported that he smelled marijuana and, upon searching the car, the driver and its famous passenger, found a small amount in the musician’s pocket.
Garfunkel faces a $100 fine unless he has a conviction within the past three years, authorities said. The 62-year-old singer, who lives in Manhattan, is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday on the charge, but may respond by mail or have a lawyer appear for him.
