Stars, Devils Each Have 3 All-Stars

Some Dallas Stars will be wearing home uniforms again in Minnesota, this time as NHL All-Stars rather than North Stars.

Dallas forwards Mike Modano and Bill Guerin and goaltender Marty Turco were elected Thursday to the starting lineup for the Western Conference.

The game will be played Feb. 8 in Minnesota, the former home of the North Stars, who moved to Dallas for the 1993-94 season. They were replaced in 2000 by the Wild, hosts of the league’s 54th All-Star game.

They will be joined in the West lineup by defensemen Nicklas Lidstrom of Detroit and Colorado’s Rob Blake, who earned a conference-high 104,809 votes.

The other West starting forward is Vancouver’s Todd Bertuzzi, who received the second-most votes -- 448 fewer than Blake.

Lidstrom, who received 90,995 votes, was elected for the sixth year in a row, while Blake will start for the fourth time in five years.

The Stanley Cup champion New Jersey Devils have three starters in the Eastern Conference lineup, all on the defensive side.

Martin Brodeur will start in goal for the third time and play behind teammates Scott Stevens and Scott Niedermayer.

Stevens will make his 14th All-Star appearance.

The forwards are Atlanta’s Ilya Kovalchuk, Martin St. Louis of Tampa Bay, and center Joe Thornton of Boston.

Kovalchuk began Thursday tied for the league lead with 46 points and was the runaway choice with 145,380 votes.

Thornton had the fewest votes among starters, with 51,247.

The full rosters will be announced Jan. 22.

Dallas center Mike Modano doesn’t expect to skate again until at least next week because of a groin injury. Modano already has sat out two games.... The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled defenseman Pierre Hedin from St. John’s of the American Hockey League.... The Chicago Blackhawks recalled defenseman Anton Babchuk from Norfolk of the AHL.... St. Louis Blues defenseman Barret Jackman is expected to sit out the rest of the season because of a dislocated left shoulder.
