Bring Gangs to Account

After reading “Boy Charged in CHP Killing” (April 24), about the shooting of a California Highway Patrol officer and the apparent admission by the 16-year-old alleged perpetrator that it was to win stature in his street gang, I wondered if a creative prosecutor couldn’t prosecute the other members of the gang on some type of charges, such as racketeering, or as accomplices to the actual act.
When killing is a ticket to one’s entrance and stature in an organization, then that organization and its members should be held accountable for the act itself, in my opinion. Perhaps someone should read up on the creative prosecutions of the Chicago gangs and go after these cowards.
