Cockpit Doors

The 9/11 hearings have concentrated on intelligence lapses during the Clinton and second Bush administrations. However, everyone seems to have forgotten that the simple anti-hijacking remedy suggested more than 20 years ago could have prevented 9/11: the installation of armored, secure cockpit-access doors. This was suggested after the Mideast hijackings in the ‘70s; each administration sat on its hands, kowtowing to the inertia of the Federal Aviation Administration and pressure from the airlines. Let’s spread the blame out where it belongs.
