Times Staff Reports
The traditional fern-collecting season in the San Bernardino National Forest near Skyforest has been canceled to allow the plants to grow back from last fall’s fires, forest officials said.
Japanese and Korean cooks in particular come from Los Angeles and desert communities to collect the newly bloomed bracken fern each spring.
Permits will not be issued, and people will be asked to stay away, said Tricia Abbas, spokeswoman for the Mountaintop District of the Department of Agriculture Forest Service.
