“Their Eyes Were Watching God,” a 1937 novel by Zora Neale Hurston, is being turned into a TV movie for ABC and will star Oscar winner Halle Berry in a script by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks.
Berry plays the lead role in what the network describes as a story about a woman’s quest for “love, sensual excitement and spiritual fulfillment, despite society’s expectations of a woman of color in 1920s America.” Oprah Winfrey, Kate Forte and Quincy Jones are the executive producers.
Berry is no stranger to television. She won an Emmy in 2000 for her performance in the HBO movie “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge.”
