U.N. Experts on the Way to Investigate Homicides

U.N. criminal justice experts headed for Ciudad Juarez to assist a federal task force investigating the deaths of more than 100 women in the border city over the last decade.
The U.N. experts were to meet with the task force beginning today, a statement from the Mexican attorney general’s office said.
Prosecutors officially acknowledge that 108 homicides are unexplained and that 93 appear to involve a similar pattern of sexual abuse or mutilation. The government, however, says more than 250 women have been killed since 1993, and independent human rights groups put the number at three times that high.
