School District Reassigns Its Truant Officers

The truant officer is the latest victim of budget cuts in Sonoma County.
The Santa Rosa City Schools District cut positions and reassigned its three child welfare workers this year. The district reportedly was the last in the county to employ officers to fight truancy.
The district attorney’s office also plans to significantly reduce the number of letters it sends to parents about their legal obligation to have truant children attend school.
