A worker at a Costa Mesa manufacturing plant was killed Tuesday when a 1,000-pound lid from a tank fell on him.
The man was working at Dabico Inc. in the 2900 block of Airway Avenue when the incident occurred about 3:30 p.m., said Fire Capt. Fred Seguin.
The man, whose name was not released, was on a platform inside one of the 14-foot fiberglass tanks the company makes for fuel storage when workers below called that it was quitting time, authorities said.
No one saw the incident, and it wasn’t clear what caused the tank lid, which was hinged and open, to fall on the worker, Seguin said.
Cal-OSHA is scheduled to investigate, authorities said.
