Gunman Claims Ties to Al Qaeda Suspects

The man who killed three U.S. missionaries Monday claims he met suspected Al Qaeda members, including one who bombed the U.S. destroyer Cole in 2000, the state-run Yemeni newspaper September 26 said.
The weekly said Abed Abdul Razak Kamel told police he joined Yemen’s Islamic Jihad group in 1997 after he met a man who later took part in the Cole attack, which killed 17 U.S. sailors.
“Kamel also admitted to knowing other suspected Al Qaeda members,” the paper said. “He also told interrogators to kill him since he was going to go to heaven anyway.”
