An Anaheim man was sentenced Friday to 55 years to life in prison after being convicted of severely beating his live-in girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter, who later died.
The girl, Deserie Ruggiero, was pronounced dead at West Anaheim Medical Center last year. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance from the Rainbow Inn Motel after her mother and a motel employee tried to revive the girl, who was unconscious and bleeding from the head.
Police later concluded that the mother’s boyfriend, Frank Becerra, 26, had severely beaten the girl.
In court, prosecutors showed photos that detailed the girl’s injuries. Becerra maintained the girl accidentally slipped out of his hands.
