Volleyball Players Are National Team Finalists

Four volleyball players from Los Angeles Loyola High--Paul Beckwith, Jimmy Killian, Jake Schkud and Garret Smith--and Josh Schwartzapel of Manhattan Beach Mira Costa have been selected as finalists for the U.S. boys’ 16 national team that will compete this summer in the 2002 zone championships, a qualifier for the 2003 Youth World Championships.

Final tryouts will be Memorial Day weekend. The zone championships are June 24-30 in the Dominican Republic. The team will also compete July 3-8 in the Junior Olympic boys’ volleyball championships in Louisville, Ky.
