Jordan Sisson’s single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Joudan Leiro from second base with the winning run to give Chatsworth High, No. 3 in The Times’ rankings, a 3-2 victory against No. 20 Newhall Hart in a semifinal game of the Westside baseball tournament on Thursday.
Left-hander Joe Guntz improved his career record to 27-0 with a complete game. He struck out three, walked one and gave up seven hits.
Hart (3-1) opened the scoring in the third inning on Mike Alvarado’s two-run single.
Sisson tied the score in the fifth with a run-scoring single and ended the game with his third hit.
With losses earlier this week by No. 1 La Puente Bishop Amat and No. 2 Huntington Beach Edison, defending City Section champion Chatsworth (4-0) is poised to take over the No. 1 position.
The Chancellors have made only two errors in four games while receiving solid pitching from Guntz (2-0), Justin Cassel (1-0) and Jason Dominguez (1-0).
