General Motors Corp. and Toyota Motor Corp. are planning a new vehicle for the auto makers’ joint-venture factory in California, after adding a hatchback for General Motors this year.
GM, the world’s largest auto maker, this year started selling the Pontiac Vibe produced by the New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. venture. Toyota, Japan’s biggest auto maker, makes a version of the same vehicle, called the Matrix, in Canada.
The Fremont factory was established in 1984 and earlier built the Toyota Corolla and Chevrolet Prizm. Toyota still makes the Corolla at the plant and the Tacoma pickup truck.
