ATA Seeks Federal Loan Guarantees

American Trans Air Inc. said it will apply for as much as $165 million in federal loan guarantees as it tries to steady its business in the aftermath of Sept. 11 and during a slow economic recovery.
The Indianapolis-based carrier, which already has received $43 million in federal emergency grants since last year’s terrorist attacks, also is planning to ask the government for an additional $31-million cash infusion.
