Services Set for Notre Dame’s Merante

A funeral Mass will be held Saturday for Gino Merante of Newhall, who died Aug. 8 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Aug. 2. He was 17.
The Mass will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 23233 West Lyons Ave., Newhall. Burial will be at Mission Hills Catholic Cemetery, 11160 Stranwood Ave., Mission Hills. A rosary will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
Merante, who graduated from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame High this spring and was going to play baseball at Valley College, lost control of his 1984 Corvette during a street race at 9:50 p.m. on the Old Road in Newhall, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
