A county prosecutor has suspended his campaign for state Assembly because he is being called to duty as a U.S. Naval Reserve officer.
Jeff Gorell, a Republican candidate for the 35th Assembly District, is to leave in two weeks for the Middle East from MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla.
Gorell, 30, is running against incumbent Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara). He has not dropped out of the race.
He joined the Reserves in 1998 as a lieutenant.
