A man who allegedly rushed at sheriff’s deputies was shot to death Friday, minutes after someone called to report that the man was acting strangely and stopping passing cars, authorities said.
The shooting took place about 12:35 p.m. near Mansel Avenue and Manhattan Beach Boulevard, said Det. Mike Scott. The unidentified man had briefly fled from police on a gray moped before getting off and quickly lying down, Scott said. The man then got up and began waving his arms and cursing before rushing at deputies, the detective said.
At least two deputies fired on the man, who died at the scene.
