Cool, Clear Water

Re “Sweet Deal for Tap Water,” editorial, Sept. 4: It would be a particularly sweet deal if the Metropolitan Water District treated all of its member agencies to the same quality of water at the same price. Instead, some of us are getting straight, salty Colorado River water. With it comes a hardness that costs us in higher plumbing and detergent bills and adverse effects on our health and that of our gardens.
Those who receive straight Northern California water via the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta can get a better, much softer quality of water. If the state were doing its job properly, pesticide runoff in this otherwise superior water would be minimized.
