State Employees Union Votes to OK Strike

Members of Minnesota’s largest state employees union have authorized a strike that could affect universities, parks and prisons.
Union members voted 90% in favor of the strike, which could begin Sept. 17. The state is preparing contingency plans, said Julien Carter, Minnesota’s employee relations commissioner.
A union negotiating team last month rejected the state’s offer and recommended its 19,000 members walk off the job. Correction officers are the only members prohibited by law from going on strike.
