Two dozen horses trained for competition were killed in a fire that swept through their stable southeast of Paris.
Four badly burned horses were led out of their stalls after the 6:30 a.m. blaze in Bois-le-Roi, on the northern edge of the Fontainebleau Forest.
“We couldn’t enter the barn. The fire was too big, too dangerous,” said Marcel Rozier, owner of the stable and former jumping trainer for France’s Olympic team.
“We could do nothing,” he said.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
