MILITARY FRONT
Troops deployed in the war against terrorism should expect to be away from home for longer than military personnel have at any time since World War II, Pentagon officials said.
DIPLOMACY
President Bush arrived in China for the annual meeting of the 21-member APEC forum, as foreign ministers finished drafting a four-point statement pledging that the Pacific Rim economic alliance will fight terrorism as a battle between “civilization and savagery.”
ANTHRAX
The tally of confirmed anthrax victims grew to six Thursday, including a New Jersey postal worked who may have contracted the disease by handling a piece of unopened mail. Authorities offered a $1-million reward for information about the “bioterrorists” who have sent bacteria-laden envelopes to three cities and perhaps another nation.
