$21-Million Verdict Against Lawyer Upheld

A judge Tuesday upheld a jury’s $21-million award to a woman who said her attorney’s bad advice left her destitute.
Orange County Superior Court Judge James V. Selna reviewed Friday’s verdict, and judgment was entered against Lee Durst, a court clerk said. A lawsuit filed by Robin Wilt accused Durst of botching her claim against a mortgage company that foreclosed on her San Juan Capistrano home. She also said he recommended that she and her husband hire a manager for their Kansas nightclub without disclosing that the man had a criminal record.
