Average Price of Gas Decreases Further

U.S. retail gasoline prices fell for the 10th consecutive week, dropping 4 cents to $1.13 a gallon during a four-day holiday weekend that is one of the busiest for travel, an Energy Department survey showed.

Prices for regular self-serve have fallen 26% since Sept. 11. They were at a two-year low during the Thanksgiving holiday period, according to the department’s survey of about 900 gas stations.

Prices are down 35 cents, or 24%, from the same time last year.

The West Coast continued to have the most expensive gasoline in the nation, although prices in the region fell 4.1 cents a gallon to $1.31 in the week ended Monday.
