‘Harry’ Shoos Away Rivals With Broom

“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” grossed $82.4 million over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday, breaking the previous record of $80.1 million set by “Toy Story 2” in 1999.
“Harry Potter” took only six days to reach $150 million in box office, two days faster than “Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace” in 1999, according to the box-office tracking firm Exhibitor Relations Co.
“Spy Game” opened with $30.6 million over the five-day period for third place, while the Martin Lawrence comedy “Black Knight” grossed $15.4 million and the comedy “Out Cold” took in $6.7 million.
