* Motorola Inc., the largest maker of cable-television set-top boxes, said it agreed to buy closely held Synchronous Inc., which makes fiber-optic systems to transmit video and data traffic, for $260million in stock. The purchase will expand Motorola’s cable business. Motorola shares fell 57 cents on the New York Stock Exchange.

* Telephone and network data operator Global Crossing Ltd. said it will sell its IPC Trading Systems unit to a Goldman Sachs investment group for $360 million to raise cash to fund operations.
