Want Killer Freed? Be Responsible for His Acts

Re “Allaway’s Attorneys Call Client Safe, Sane,” Nov. 14:
I remember author Norman Mailer saying the same about a killer, who was released and promptly killed again. The psychiatrists and other people vouching for the release of criminals should be held responsible for any further criminal acts by said criminals.

I was on campus that day in 1976, and watched the horrible sight of lifeless bodies being carried out of the Cal State Fullerton Library. That was 25 years ago, but I can remember it as clear as yesterday. The confusion, the screaming, the blood, attempts to save the dying, the sirens and the capture of Allaway being led out by police.
This man is a mass murderer. He chose the path he took that day and should be made to pay for what he did. Releasing him into society because some psychiatrist at Patton State Hospital says Allaway is cured will solve the problem? Can this psychiatrist guarantee the safety of the public Allaway comes in contact with?
Please, Judge Frank F. Fasel, keep Allaway in lockup forever. One more terrorist loose on the streets, given freedom to kill again by the courts, is all we need in these critical times we are facing.
