Test Will Tell if Hunters Know Bear Necessities

Prospective bear hunters in Montana will have to pass a test beginning next year to demonstrate they know the difference between a black bear and a federally protected grizzly bear.
On average, two Montana grizzlies a year die because hunters mistake them for black bears. Grizzlies are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, and hunting them is prohibited. Black bears may be hunted by sportsmen who have the proper license.
