From Times Staff and Wire Reports
A Marin County woman who hired a crew to trim her hedge faces a $500 fine because it was big enough around to qualify as a tree. Natasha Smith faces a misdemeanor charge of cutting down a tree when she appears in court next week.
Though most agencies and arborists measure the size of a tree by its circumference at chest height, Fairfax requires a permit to cut down any tree that measures a minimum of 24 inches around at a point 24 inches from the ground.
