Jurors in Rabbi’s Trial to Resume Deliberations

Jurors deliberated for six hours in the Camden County murder trial of Rabbi Fred J. Neulander but there was no decision on whether he is guilty of arranging his wife’s slaying seven years ago.

Deliberations will resume Monday.

The jury asked the judge in a note what would happen if they could not reach a unanimous verdict. The judge said it would be premature to answer, and the six men and six women resumed their second day of deliberations.

Authorities say Neulander paid two men to kill his wife, Carol, on Nov. 1, 1994. Those men--Len Jenoff, 56, and Paul Michael Daniels, 27--are both in jail awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to aggravated manslaughter.

If the jury convicts Neulander of the most serious charge he faces--capital murder--it will reconvene to consider whether to impose the death penalty or sentence Neulander to as long as life in prison with no chance of parole for 30 years.
