A man was convicted in Austin, Texas, of killing a 13-year-old girl during a 1991 yogurt shop robbery that turned into a quadruple murder.
Jurors deliberated for about 13 hours over two days before finding Robert Burns Springsteen IV, 26, guilty of capital murder in the shooting death of Amy Ayers. Springsteen faces life in prison or the death penalty.
The courtroom was packed with victims’ family members, some of whom burst into sobs as the verdict was announced.
Ayers and three other teenage girls were bound, gagged and shot in the head Dec. 6, 1991, during a botched robbery. Two of the girls worked at the shop.
