Alonso Smith
Tustin, Track and Field
Smith won the 800 and 1,600 meters to lead Tustin to the Southern Section Division II title Saturday at Cerritos
College. Tustin won four individual
events and scored 49 points in the victory. Edison and Santa Margarita tied for second with 38. Smith won the 1,600 in 4 minutes 15.44 seconds, holding off Newport Harbor’s Chris McMillen (4:15.76). He then came back to defend his title in the 800 with a time of 1:53.40.

Katella, Baseball
Pitched a two-hit shutout in 6-0 victory over defending Division III champion Villa Park in a first-round game.
* Brandon Mel
Northwood, Volleyball
Had nine of his 24 kills in the fifth game to help Northwood defeat third-seeded Ocean View in the Division IV quarterfinals.
Diana La Riva
Tustin, Softball
La Riva struck out 29 batters and pitched an 11-inning no-hitter to lead Tustin past Elsinore, 1-0, in the first round of the Division III playoffs
Friday. La Riva, a junior who has 236 strikeouts and three no-hitters this season, allowed only one Elsinore batter to reach base, on a dropped third strike. The Tillers scored in the bottom of the 11th when Shawna Silvas singled home pinch-runner Kirsten Masse.

Corona del Mar, Track and Field
Won the 1,600 meters (4:58.30) and the 3,200 (10:43.28), helping the Sea Kings defend their Division III title.
* Michelle Sanford
Woodbridge, Track and Field
Defended her Division II long jump title (19-6 3/4), won the triple jump (40-4 1/4) and finished fourth in the 100 (12.28).
