Santa Ana Falls in State Title Game

Nina Distefano pitched a two-hit shutout Sunday as Long Beach defeated Santa Ana, 3-0, to win the state championship in softball.
Ana Velasquez and DeAnna Miranda had Santa Ana’s only hits.
The Vikings (43-3-1), who won the state title for the second time, scored twice in the second inning and once in the third.
In the Southern California baseball regionals:
Santa Ana 15-9, Saddleback 8-4--Anthony Gonzales hit a grand slam in each game as the Dons (37-10) beat the visiting Gauchos twice and advanced to the regional finals Friday, when they will host Cuesta in a best-of-three series.
Cuesta 12, Orange Coast 6--Chris Miller had four hits and four RBIs, and John Preston drove in three runs for Cuesta (34-10), which advanced to the regional finals. Glenn Hedgpeth doubled and had two RBIs for the Pirates (26-18).
L.A. Harbor 6, Cypress 5--Travis McAndrews hit for the cycle as L.A. Harbor (36-6-1) held off a late Cypress rally to advance to the regional finals. Cypress (30-17) scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to make it 6-5, but failed to score with runners on first and third with one out. Cypress’ Daylon Monette hit two doubles and scored twice.
