San Fernando’s Gonzalez Hurls a Gem

Abraham Gonzalez threw a one-hitter and struck out 10 to lead San Fernando High to a 7-0 victory over Reseda in a Valley Mission League baseball opener Monday.
Gonzalez (4-0), who walked two, had a no-hitter until Martin Villalobos led off the sixth inning with a single.
Rudy Lemos, Ruben Jimenez, Aldo Montalvan and Danny Salazar each had two hits for San Fernando (6-2). Lemos drove in two runs.
Reseda is 0-4.
Kennedy 11, Monroe 0--Adam Geery had two doubles in a Valley Mission League opener at Kennedy halted after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
Bobby Phillips added two hits for Kennedy (7-2), ranked No. 3 in the region by The Times.
SOFTBALL
Chaminade 1, Flintridge Sacred Heart 0--Kelly Musgrove’s run-scoring single with two out in the seventh inning was the difference for the Eagles (2-1-1) in a Mission League opener at Flintridge Sacred Heart.
Christina Lupacchini (2-1) threw a one-hitter, struck out seven and walked one.
Musgrove was three for three and Shauna Johnson had two hits and scored the winning run.
Oak Park 3, Calabasas 1--Cindy Verity had two hits and scored a run in a nonleague game at Valley View Park.
Melissa Johnson (4-2) struck out seven and walked none for Oak Park (4-4).
Taft 12, Van Nuys 4--Dana Finkelstein had three hits and the Toreadors (7-0) won a nonleague game at Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park.
Kristen Trowbridge had two hits and drove in two runs for Taft.
BOYS’ SWIMMING
Cleveland 112, Birmingham 64--Leon Chavez won the 50-yard freestyle in 20.96 and the 100 butterfly in 1:05 for host Cleveland (5-0, 3-0) in a West Valley League meet.
El Camino Real 85, Reseda 61--Brett Brown won the 200 individual medley in 2:09.74 and the 100 butterfly in 59.90 for the Conquistadores (1-1, 1-1) in a West Valley League meet at Birmingham.
GIRLS’ SWIMMING
Cleveland 132, Birmingham 37--Petra Julimasustra won the 100 backstroke in 1:08 and the 200 freestyle in 2:13.31 for host Cleveland (4-1, 2-1) in a West Valley League meet.
