The dozen songs on the Washington, D.C.-based trio’s third album seem to propel themselves, fueled by--but not calling attention to--any of their parts: intermingling guitars, restrained percussion and piquant storytelling. Jeff Gramm’s vocals possess an excuse-me comportment, as if they were interrupting a conversation between two guitars. But the tone renders the vignettes no less absorbing.
