A 3-year-old girl who apparently fell into a La Palma backyard swimming pool died Sunday, after her father rushed her limp body to neighbors, seeking help.
The father saw the child floating face down in the family’s pool in the 8000 block of Andre Lane, police said, and dove in to rescue her. He knew his neighbors were medical professionals and rushed her to them. The neighbors, who police believe are a doctor and nurse, called 911 at 12:38 p.m. and began emergency rescue procedures.
La Palma police and county paramedics also worked on the girl, but she was taken to La Palma Intercommunity Hospital’s emergency room with dim hopes for survival. She died at 5:04 p.m.
Authorities believe the toddler wandered outside through an open sliding glass door and fell into the pool, which was not fenced. The incident is considered an accidental drowning, and being investigated by La Palma police as such.
