La Serna 4, El Modena 1--Denise Linke (20-2) retired 15 in a row at one point, and catcher Ru Andrade threw out a runner at third base in the seventh inning to prevent a rally by El Modena (21-11-1), the section’s last remaining wild-card team.
The Division III title was the second in four tries, and first since 1996, for La Serna (26-3). Linke gave up only four hits and struck out four. She got the support she needed in the second inning, when the Lancers put together six hits, including a leadoff double by Jamie Marker, and run-scoring singles by Jessica Cole, Heather Shook and Stacy Silva.
